POP3 Mail with Outlook Express 5.0x for Mac OS 8.x-9.x

POP, Post Office Protocol, can be thought of as a "store-and-forward" email service. When you using POP mail clients, your email messages are transferred from the email server to you computer's hard drive and unavailable for viewing or download from other computers.

Let us begin...

1. Start Outlook Express the way you normally do.

2.Click on the Tools, then Accounts, to open the Accounts window. Getting Started

3. From the Accounts window, click on New to open a New Account window. Preferences
4. In the New Account window that follows, select Account Type: POP and click OK. Mail Servers

5. In the Edit Account window, provide the following:

- Account Name : My GW Email (or anything you like)

- Name: Your name

- Email Address: Your email address at GW
(I am using ithelp@gwu.edu because that is my email address)

- Account ID: The part of your email address before the @ symbol (I am using ithelp)

- POP Server: pop.gwu.edu

- *SMTP Server: smtp.gwu.edu

- Click OK

*Note: If you are off campus, please contact your Internet Service Provider for their SMTP server. GW's SMTP servers work only on campus.

6. Getting your Mail: click on Send & Receive and select your account name. I've selected My GW Email. Mail Server Info
7. Now, you will be asked for a password. Enter your password and click OK to get your email. Mail Server Info
