1. What is aSNAP?
Authenticated Scholars Network Access Port (aSNAP) allows anyone with a laptop computer, network card and a GWMail account to plug into the GW network and access the Internet.

2. What do I need to use aSNAP?
  1. An internet-ready laptop (with ethernet card)
  2. A web browser
  3. A GWMail account (Don't have an account? | Forgot your password?)
  4. CAT 5 cable (cable that goes from your computer's ethernet card to the port)

3. Where can I use aSNAP?

You can use aSNAP in the following:

Classrooms: (details in gw.asnap.classroom.pdf)
  1. Corcoran
  2. Funger
  3. Gelman
  4. MPA
  5. Old Main
  6. Phillips
  7. Rome
  8. 1776 G St
  9. Tompkins
  10. 1957-1970 E St
Gelman Library:
  1. Lower Level (Room B05)
  2. 4th Floor Group Study Room (Room 403)
  3. 5th Floor Reading Room (Room 503)
  4. aSNAP designated carrels in the 5th Floor Stacks

4. Who can use aSNAP?Where can I use aSNAP?
Only current faculty, staff, students (students should be registered for classes) can use aSNAP.

5. How do I connect to the internet using aSANP?
Plug in your computer to an aSNAP port, and launch a web browser like Internet Explorer, or Netscape and go to any site on the Internet. You will be asked to enter your GWMail username and password. After aSNAP has authenticated you, you will be able to use the Intenet. Depending on the browser you are using you will need to allow popups from the site *.nit.gwu.edu.

6. Can I print to the Network printers while using aSNAP?
Unfortunately, you cannot print to the network printers using aSNAP. If you need to print, you have to use one of the workstations in the Academic Technologies computer labs
