Create NetIDs | Password Resets | NetID FAQs

NetID is a single username (with a corresponding password) that gives you access to GWMail (Email), MyGW (GW's Portal) and Blackboard (Online Course Software). You can use your NetID to request personal web space (Acad), Research Space or Access Computer Labs on campus.

Note: Your NetID--your GWMail address without the @gwu.edu--will be ready for Blackboard access 24 hours after it has been created.

» If your email address at GW is janedoe@gwu.edu, your NetID is simply janedoe.


Students, Staff & Faculty

BEFORE CREATING NetIDs: NetID creation requires a current PIN, i.e., a non-expired PIN that you have used at least once to log into GWeb Info System. If you are new to GW, have not used GWeb Info System previously, and/or have just gotten your PIN reset by the security office, please log into GWeb Info System and reset your PIN from the default PIN to one of your own choosing before attempting to create a NetID.

» Create NetID - to get access to GWMail (Email), Blackboard and MyGW. Your NetID--your GWMail address without the @gwu.edu--will be ready for Blackboard access 24 hours after it has been created.

» Consortium Students - Go to the Office of the Registrar on the 1st level of Rice Hall, 2121 Eye St, NW and ask that your birth date be entered into Banner and create yourself a NetID using your birthday. Wait another 24 hours to log into Blackboard.

Once you have your NetID, you can request these:
» Acad -- Academic computing on UNIX, Pine, personal web pages
» Research2 -- For computationally intensive work on a UNIX platform


Affiliates, Contractors, MFA Staff, National Security Archives Personnel, Visiting Scholars

» Only Account Sponsors Can Request GWorld Cards or NetIDs - Gives access to GWMail (Email), Blackboard, MyGW and GWorld services. Your NetID--your GWMail address without the @gwu.edu--will be ready for Blackboard access 24 hours after it has been created.
Instructions for sponsoring affiliates

Once you have acquired a NetID via your sponsor(s), you may request anyone of these if necessary:
» Acad -- Academic computing on UNIX, Pine, personal web pages
» Research2 -- For computationally intensive work on a UNIX platform


Alumni

» Create NetIDs using your birth date - If you are auditing a course and need a GWMail account and Blackboard access. Your NetID--your GWMail address without the @gwu.edu--will be ready for Blackboard access 24 hours after it has been created.

» Online Community

Once you have acquired a NetID, you may request these if required by your classes:
» Acad -- Academic computing on UNIX, Pine, personal web pages

» Departmental GWMail (EMail) Account | Info

Student Organizations and Clubs

Miscellaneous & Administrative Accounts

Most of these accounts require separate logins and passwords for access (EAS is the lone exception) which must be obtained separately.

  • Citrix -- Faculty & Staff only
  • Banner -- Faculty & Staff only
  • EAS -- Faculty & Staff only
  • Calendar -- Faculty & Staff
  • LISTSERV lists -- Mailing lists for classes, departments, student clubs (must have a faculty sponsor)
  • Novell -- Access to Novell services

GWMail Quota Increase For Faculty And Staff

GW faculty and staff may now request a quota increase to 100MB. Complete the form below to request your quota increase.

To Delete All E-mail Accounts

Fill out the form that is linked below, with the appropriate information and fax to the number listed at the top of the form, to have the account deleted by the ISS staff. ***(This form can be filled out directly in the PDF, but can not be saved as it is a locked form. Please print the form out as soon as you complete it). ***
