General Information
- The mailbox capacity is: 30 minutes
- The maximum length of each message is: 2 minutes
Your standard message retention times are: 30 Days for all messages.
Modular Messaging Voicemail Instructions
It is best to set up your new voicemail box for the first time from your office phone.
From Your Phone
- Dial 64000.
- You will hear your “computer generated” name.
- Dial default password of 1#.
- Follow system prompts to create a new password.
Change the Header (personal voice vs. computer generated voice)
- From the main menu, press 5.
- Press 5 again to record your name.
- Press 1 when finished recording to listen to quality.
- Press # to approve.
Create a Personal Greeting
- From the main menu, press 3.
- Press 1 to record your greeting.
- Press 1 again to select personal greeting (or press 2 for extended absence greeting).
- Follow system prompts.
Retrieving Messages
From Your Phone
- Dial 64000.
- You will hear your “computer generated” name, unless the header was recorded by you.
- Dial your new password + #.
- Press 2 to retrieve messages.
- Press 0 to listen to a message.
- When finished with a message, press *3 to delete or follow the system prompts.
From Another Phone on Campus
- Dial 64000.
- If the extension has its own mailbox, press *#. OR
- If the extension does not have its own mailbox, press #.
- Dial your 5-digit mailbox number (extension).
- Dial your password + #.
- Press 2 to retrieve messages.
- Press 1 to listen to a message.
- When finished with a message, press *3 to delete or follow the system prompts.
From an Off-Campus Phone
- Dial (703) 726-4000.
- Press the # sign.
- Dial your 5-digit mailbox number (extension).
- Dial your password + #.
- Press 2 to retrieve messages.
- Press 1 to listen to a message.
- When finished with a message, press *3 to delete or follow the system prompts.
Changing To Busy/No Answer Greeting Option
From Your Phone
- Dial 64000.
- You will hear your “computer generated” name, unless the header was recorded by you.
- Dial your password + #.
- From the main menu, press 3 for personal greeting options.
- Press 1 to record greeting.
- Press 3 to record Optional Greeting 1 (or press 4 to record Optional Greeting 2).
- When finished, you need to “Administer Call Types.”
- Press 4.
- Press 1 to activate busy/no answer call types.
- When finished, you need to “Activate” the greeting.
- Press 2.
- Press 1 to activate Optional Greeting 1 (or press 2 to activate optional greeting 2).
- Press 1 to activate as a busy greeting (or press 2 to activate as a no answer greeting).
- Press # to complete.
- Hang up.
From Another Phone on Campus
- Dial 64000.

Changing Your Password

From Your Phone
- Dial 64000.
- You will hear your “computer generated” name, unless the header was recorded by you.
- Dial your password + #.
- From the main menu, press 5.
- Press 4 to change your password.
- Follow the prompts.
From Another Phone on Campus
- Dial 64000.
- If the extension has its own mailbox, press *#. OR
- If the extension does not have its own mailbox, press #.
- Dial your 5-digit mailbox number (extension).
- Dial your password + #.
- From the main menu, press 5.
- Press 4 to change your password.
- Follow the prompts.
From an Off-Campus Phone
- Dial (703) 726-4000.
- Press the # sign.
- Dial your 5-digit mailbox number (extension).
- Dial your password + #.
- From the main menu, press 5.
- Press 4 to change your password. Follow the prompts.
- After 3 failed attempts, your voicemail box will be locked. This is cumulative. Any combination of 3 attempts will lock it. You will need to send in a request to ithelp@gwu.edu to unlock and/or reset the password.
- When listening to messages, the header will now state the outside telephone number (when available) as well as any extension that called your line.
- If you use the extended absence greeting, it will automatically ask you if you want to disable it when you log into your mailbox.
- When you call 64000 from another phone that has voicemail and you forget to dial *#, you will be transferred to your extension and not the voicemail for your number.
- The personal greeting must be deleted before using the optional greetings. When you are using the busy and no answer greetings and have the send all calls feature activated, the system will automatically use the “no answer” greeting.
