Norton Anti-Virus: Running LiveUpdate Manually and Automatically for Mac OS X

The Norton AntiVirus LiveUpdate feature is quite user friendly. It is designed to automatically use your existing internet connection to download virus definitions from Symantec's server. LiveUpdate may either be run manually or configured to run automatically at defined intervals.

NOTE: We recommend running LiveUpdate weekly or when a new virus is found.


Before you Begin ...
... You must ...
  1. ... have Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition for Mac OS X Downloaded and Installed on your computer
  2. ... be connected to the Internet

Running LiveUpdate Manually

1. Start Norton AntiVirus as you normally do. From the main screen click the LiveUpdate button

Click the LiveUpdate Button

Now click Update Everything Now

Click  Update Everything Now Button

to update your virus definitions.


Configuring LiveUpdate To Run Automatically

1. Start Norton Anti-Virus like you normally do. From the main screen, click on the LiveUpdate button and then click Norton Scheduler.

2. From the Norton Scheduler window, click the LiveUpdate icon -- towards the top.

3. Under the Add LiveUpdate Task window, do the following 4 tasks:

1. Name your task. I called mine My LiveUpdate

2. Under Choose a product to update, select All Products

3. Set a Frequency: Weekly (our recommendation). For day and time of your update, select what is convenient for you.

4. Click the top left red sphere to close the window and Save the task

4. You will now return to the Norton Scheduler window and your take will show as checked, with the details your specified. Click the top left red sphere to close the Scheduler window. You are now all done.

Close the Norton Scheduler window
