Norton Anti-Virus: Running LiveUpdate Manually and Automatically For Windows®

The Norton AntiVirus LiveUpdate feature is quite user friendly. It is designed to automatically use your existing internet connection to download virus definitions from Symantec's server. LiveUpdate may either be run manually or configured to run automatically at defined intervals.

NOTE: We recommend you run LiveUpdate Daily or when a new virus is found.


Before you Begin ...
... You must ...
  1. ... have Norton Anti-Virus Corporate Edition Downloaded and Installed on your computer
  2. ... be connected to the Internet

Running LiveUpdate Manually

1. Open Norton AntiVirus either by clicking the shield located in the bottom right corner of the task bar:

by navigating through the start menu.

Or ... Navigate to Norton Anti-Virus From the Start Menu

2. You will now see the screen below. Click the LiveUpdate button.

Click LiveUpdate Button to Continue

3. From the LiveUpdate Welcome screen, click Next to update the virus definitions.

Click Next to Start Updating Virus Definitions

LiveUpdate will begin downloading virus definitions:

4. Once done, you will see the results of the update:

5. Click Finish. Your virus definitions will be up-to-date. Remember to run LiveUpdate regularly! One way to ensure that you stay up-to-date on your virus definitions is to configure Norton Anti-Virus to run LiveUpdate automatically. Here is how ...


Configuring LiveUpdate To Run Automatically

1. Open NAV as you would normally or as shown in Step 1 above.

2. Choose Schedule Updates from the File menu found in the main NAV window.

Click File, then Schedule Updates

3. Place a check in the enable scheduled automatic updates box and click the Schedule button.

Click the Schedule Button

4. Define the frequency for LiveUpdate to auto-update and click OK to finish. We highly recommend you set this to Daily and at a time your computer is on the internet. In this window, I have chosen to update NAV daily at 8:15 AM.

Schedule Daily Scan (Recommended Setting)

LiveUpdate will check for virus definitions Daily (recommended setting).
